Well, throngs of Lovecraft faithful might not be getting the big-screen adaptation of the notorious paranormal author's  At the Mountains of Madness from Guillermo del Toro, but avid gamers will still be able to venture into forbidden territory with this new survival horror video game by Team Clockworks in Spain.

This frightening incursion into the frigid realms of Antarctica is still in the early stages of development, but it's a perfect destination for horror hounds of all persuasions.  Written in 1931, the Dark Prince of Providence's original cosmic creature novella contains threads of the complex Cthulhu mythology and involves a doomed university mission to the Seventh Continent, where unspeakable monsters are discovered in the spooky, ice-encrusted ruins of an ancient city founded by visitors from beyond the stars.

Here's the game's official synopsis:

At the Mountains of Madness is an indie PC game based on the novel by HP Lovecraft, currently under development.  You play in first-person perspective as geologist William Dyer, a professor at Miskatonic University back in the 1930’s, who hopes to deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica in search of undiscovered fossils and zones unexplored by man.

The game is being developed with the Unreal Engine 4 and will be available for PC/MAC/Linux, using latest technology like Directx11, physics / wind / ragdoll system, post-processing effects and lighting.  Fight against the elements and explore ancient lands and antarctic landscapes, find dark caves and ancient alien dungeon labyrinths while trying to survive in a realtime 3D action adventure in search of undiscovered fossils and zones unexplored by man.
