King Kong is set to swing into theaters in March with Kong: Skull Island, a colossal $200 million extravaganza designed to set the stage for an eventual screen match-up with the mighty Godzilla in 2020.

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and starring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly, the XXL ape stomps into multiplexes on March 10 ... and, from the looks of this explosive new TV spot, he'll be mostly occupied with pesky helicopters, snarling dinosaurs and malevolent mega-spiders, with little time for relaxing with beautiful women in his huge palm.

Pay attention to the nuclear test snippets with Goodman's character explaining that the 1954 island detonations were designed to try and kill something ... an obvious reference to that other King of Monsters.

Check out the latest promo for the '70s-set Kong: Skull Island and admit that this new Kong flick looks ferociously good.
