It’s been more than five months since we saw the first explosive Star Trek Beyond teaser, but Paramount has finally (finally!!) beamed up a full new trailer.
As some of you will recall, the first trailer drew a lot of criticism because of its use of the Beastie Boys song “Sabotage,” which many fans hated. Writer and cast member Simon Pegg himself didn’t love it, pointing out it didn’t reflect the whole movie.
“It was very action-packed. It was surprising. I find it kinda to be the marketing people saying, 'Everyone come see this film, it's full of action and fun.' When there is a lot more to it than that. I didn't love it because I know there is a lot more to the film. There's a lot more story and a lot more character stuff and a lot more of what I would call 'Star Trek stuff.' They've gotta bring a big audience in. They gotta bang the drum. To the Star Trek fans I'd say, hang in there, be patient.”
So, how does the new trailer fare? It's ... pretty good! Better than the first one, I think. Let's have a look!
As you all know, Idris Elba is on board as the movie’s villain, Krall, who will introduce a new alien species to the Star Trek universe. Sofia Boutella also plays an alien named Jaylah, who'll side with the crew of the Enterprise.
Directed by Justin Lin with a script by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, John Cho as Mr. Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Simon Pegg as Scotty as well as Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba.
Star Trek Beyond will warp onto movie theaters on July 22 as the beloved sci-fi franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary. What did you think of the new trailer?
