Add two more names to the growing list of directors who could be next in line to leave the Gambit movie over creative differences.
According to Heroic Hollywood (via The Playlist), Shane Black and Joe Cornish have been added to the list of potential directors to take over Gambit in the wake of Rupert Wyatt's recent departure. Black directed Iron Man 3 for Marvel Studios and could also bring his impressive screenwriting skills to bear on the script, but he's finishing up a crime thriller called The Nice Guys and is also attached to projects like a new Predator film and a Doc Savage adaptation, so his schedule could be an issue.
Cornish directed the excellent urban alien invasion film Attack the Block (which launched Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega) and worked on the script for Ant-Man with Edgar Wright, but since Attack the Block was a relatively low-budget affair, 20th Century Fox might hesitate in turning a big budget comic book movie over to him.
Still, both are interesting choices, as is Doug Liman, the Edge of Tomorrow director whose name surfaced earlier this week as a possible replacement for Wyatt.
Production on Gambit, with Channing Tatum starring as the Ragin' Cajun, is slated to start next spring so the studio better close this deal fast. Do any of those choices sound like a winning hand to you?
