Can someone call the men in white coats? One of the inmates has escaped Arkham Asylum. Friday night, Suicide Squad director David Ayer released a new photo of Jared Leto as the Joker. There's no hiding behind cameras, or blurry special effects. This is the real deal.
Ayer tweeted the image with the caption, "The Suicide Squad wishes you a Happy Anniversary Mr. J! #Joker75 #SuicideSquad @WarnerBrosEnt @DCComics." The director wasn't alone, as Batman v Superman's Zack Snyder joined in showing solidarity. He retweeted the photo, adding, "Ha ha ha, the joke’s on you Batman… #cryptic #75th" You can see what all the fuss is about below.
Leto's version is very different from what we've seen in the past. Yes, he has green hair, but instead of wearing white face paint, he looks geniunely pale. His body is covered in tattoos, including the words "Ha Ha" on his forearm and chest. There's also a skull wearing a jester's hat, which instantly reminds us of Harlequinn (Margot Robbie). Another thing to take into consideration are his new teeth. The Joker's psychotic smile is one of his trademarks, and it's on full display here.
No matter how you feel about the aesthetic changes, The Joker looks like an inmate. He looks like someone who's served hard time. And most importantly, he looks completely and utterly insane.
What do you think of Leto's Joker?
