If you’ve been worried about how Joss Whedon would slip some geekiness into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., wonder no more. This new footage is the most Whedon-esque bit yet.

As we barrel toward San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Marvel has started leaking out some new goodies from the upcoming ABC series — and the latest featurette introduces geeky team members Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), who look to bring a healthy dose of levity to the wild, weekly cases.

In the footage presented here, they look like they have the potential to become classic Whedon characters in the vein of Buffy’s Willow or Dollhouse’s Topher — geeky characters who turn out to have more layers than an onion once he starts peeking.

Add this clip to the one introducing Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) we got last week, and we can start to get a better picture of Whedon's pitch.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to premiere this fall on ABC. We should also get some more details on the series this weekend, so keep an eye on for the latest from Comic-Con.
