If you just can’t get enough of the new-look Star Trek franchise, IDW is gearing up for a new run that will take place after the events of Star Trek Beyond. For longtime Trek fans, the enemy should certainly be a familiar one.

Bleeding Cool reports that the third issue of the series Star Trek: Boldly Go will introduce young Kirk and his crew to the infamous Next Generation baddie The Borg — about a century or so before the Federation is actually supposed to meet the famed assimilating aliens. We’ve already seen where the Kelvin timeline is shaking things up (i.e. the Khan twists), but this is one heck of a jump.

A bit of background: The Borg were first introduced to Trek canon in the second season of The Next Generation (which is set several years after The Original Series era), when Q made the two races aware of one another. The Borg would go on to be a major recurring baddie, while also eventually showing up on the big screen.

So bringing them into the Kirk era is a major leap into the past, and it’ll be interesting to see how the Enterprise’s more swashbuckling captain handles the threat.

The third issue of Star Trek Boldly Go is set to hit shelves in December.
