The salt-encrusted mineral planet of Crait is one of the many new worlds we'll be visiting when Star Wars: The Last Jedi unspools this winter.
It's one of the exotic destinations featured prominently in the previously released trailers, where an epic clash between the Resistance and First Order occurs, with plumes of red dust rising in the wake of streaking squadrons of spaceships. Its desolate and provocative imagery lends itself perfectly to further exploration.
Many of the desert planet's shrouded secrets will be revealed in an upcoming Marvel tie-in prequel one-shot titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Storms of Crait. Written by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, with art from Mike Mayhew, this side story centers on the rebels' old abandoned outpost on Crait and Luke and Leia's involvement in its discovery during the Galactic Civil War of the original trilogy.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to tell this story,” Marvel editor Jordan D. White said, according to Newsarama. “Tying the new sequel series in more tightly with the original trilogy era, and helping make the galaxy far away a little more fleshed out." Acker and Blacker had previously worked together on Star Wars: Join the Resistance, while Mayhew worked on Obi-Wan issues of the flagship Star Wars title.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi lands in theaters on Dec. 15, followed by Star Wars: The Last Jedi — Storms of Crait soaring into comic shops on Dec 27.
