Featuring interviews with the executive producers and certain members of the cast, we learn that the new season opens with the Discovery meeting up with the USS Enterprise, the latter being helmed by Anson Mount's young Captain Christopher Pike, who, under the command of Starfleet, must take command of the Discovery.
"Speaking as a fan, we've always wanted to know more about Pike," states Mount. "It's such a mysterious history."

The overarching plot of Season 2 revolves around the enigmatic "Seven Signals" and "The Red Angel," which might spell doom for all sentient life in the galaxy. Ethan Peck's Spock is inexplicably linked to the Signals, and he, more than anyone, realizes the danger they pose.
"We have made lots and lots of choices in Season 2 to shift to a much more cinematic look," says creator/EP Alex Kurtzman in the teaser above, which also includes a look at Tig Notaro's character, Denise Reno, chief engineer of the U.S.S. Hiawatha.
Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS All Access January 17.
