NBC's going back in time to visit the Great War (more commonly known as World War I) in the second season of Timeless. In a new trailer, which you can watch below, we get a sense of exciting aerial dog fights and grimy trench warfare.
There's also a Handmaid's Tale-esque vibe (at least in the costume design) with shots of what are almost certainly colonial witch burnings in Salem, Massachusetts. The first season featured no shortage of ambitious, historical set pieces and the second run looks to be just as wild.
"Remember when we thought we were done with all of this?" asks Malcolm Barrett's Rufus in an on-the-nose nod to the fact that the series was cancelled and then revived after fans complained so loudly, that the network had to bring it back. It's almost as if someone went back in time and altered the course of history just to make sure Timeless got a second season.
Well, it's certainly better than accidentally having your mother fall in love with you.
Another big reveal from the trailer is a kiss between Wyatt (Matt Lanter) and Lucy (Abigail Preston). "You're in love with Lucy, just admit it," says Rufus, always quick with a joke or truth bomb.
Yes, Season 2 will be taking viewers to exciting points in history, but also exciting junctures in the group's dynamic. Buck up because things are about to get bumpy and please, try not to kill any butterflies.
Timeless returns to the present television landscape on March 11.
