We’re a little over a month away from the opening of the Divergent sequel, and now we finally have a look at some legit footage from Insurgent.
Based on the popular young adult book series by Veronica Roth, the film franchise popped up in the wake of The Hunger Games’ massive success. Though the film did garner some fans, the box-office take wasn’t mind-blowing, and most critics agreed it felt like a pale imitation of Katniss’ journey with some more convoluted political stuff tossed in.
A new trailer for the second installment has arrived, and unlike those trippy initial teaser trailers seemingly set in the dream world, this one actually shows some footage from the real world — including a look at how things have changed in the wake of the first film. If nothing else, it looks like they’re getting to the action a lot faster this time around. Here’s hoping Shailene Woodley’s Tris can finally match the awesomeness of Katniss.
Here’s the official synopsis for the sequel:
Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
