One of the most intriguing projects on Marvel’s development slate is Freeform’s New Warriors live-action series, and now the show has locked in its cast of super-misfits — including fan favorite Squirrel Girl.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast will be led by Milana Vayntrub (Other Space, This Is Us, AT&T commercials), who will play Squirrel Girl; and Derek Theler (Baby Daddy) as Mister Immortal. The rest of the cast will be rounded out with Calum Worthy as Speedball; Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher; Matthew Moy as Microbe and Kate Comer as Debrii. One interesting note: Stranger Things alum Shannon Purser, who played Barb, was also a contender (she made a hard push for the role).
Disney alum Worthy (Austin & Ally) is set to play Robbie Baldwin/Speedball, described as an “impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls.” Moy (2 Broke Girls) will play Zack Smith/Microbe, described as a “shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you've been.” Comer (The Comeback) will portray Deborah Fields/Debrii, described as a “proud, funny and quick-witted” lesbian character with low-level telekinetic abilities that are “very low like she can move a paper cup.”
The 10-episode series New Warriors series is set to launch in 2018.
