New Doctor Who companion messes with us by teasing who she isn't

Ever since Jenna-Louise Coleman, the actress playing the new Doctor Who companion, Clara, appeared unexpectedly in the season-seven opener, Asylum of the Daleks, people have wondered if she might be playing that same character, Oswin, again, even though she died ... and was a Dalek. Looks like we may finally have an answer.

In the latest issue of the Radio Times, Coleman was grilled about the possibility that Oswin and Clara were actually the same person. In response, she stated, "The connection is that it's me playing both. I'm not Oswin: I'm a different person who looks and sounds like Oswin."

Seems pretty cut and dried, unless you take into account that, when introducing the new trailer and minisode, Matt Smith and Jenna made knowing glances about how ridiculous it would be for her to play the same person, as though to suggest that it was possible. Also worth mentioning that Coleman refused to answer what time period her companion was from or even if she is human.

So is the mystery solved, or is this just clever misdirection from Steven Moffat and company? We know the Doctor lies—but do his companions lie, too?
