The official synopsis for Doctor Who's upcoming Xmas special—as well as a brand-new, snowy EPIC poster—have just been unveiled by Auntie Beeb. So what Christmasy shenanigans will re-introduce us to this season's Scrooge-like Doctor's (Matt Smith) not-so-spiffy brand-new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman)?

Here's what the BBC's telling us.

Christmas Eve 1892 and the falling snow is the stuff of fairy-tales. When the fairy-tale becomes a nightmare and a chilling menace threatens Earth, an unorthodox young governess, Clara, calls on the Doctor for help. But the Doctor is in mourning, reclusive and determined not to engage in the problems of the universe. As old friends return, will the Doctor really abandon humankind or will he fight to save the world — and Christmas — from the icy clutches of this mysterious menace.

And here's a shot of those pesky snowmen:

Written by Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, "The Snowmen" will feature some brand-new snowy-like monsters, just in time for the holidays.

How do you like the brand-new poster and the stunning view from the TARDIS?

Doctor Who's "The Snowmen" will air on Christmas Day 2012 in the U.K. and North America.
