Everything we've heard or seen about Super 8 gives the impression that J.J. Abrams wants the film to give off a definite Steven Spielberg vibe, and a new Japanese poster for the film makes that subtext explicit by glomming on to one of sci-fi's most memorable movie posters.
While the U.S. Super 8 poster was dizzingly awesome, it didn't set our nostalgia bells ringing.
But that new Japanese poster up top takes us right back to Speilberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
It's a great poster, but what do you think? Is it a good idea for a movie to compare itself so explicitly to one of the greatest sci-fl flicks of all time? That sets a pretty high bar. Will that only be preparing us for disappointment?
