With Halloween around the corner and the Saw series dead and gone, Paranormal Activity has to fill the horror void. Paramount has released a new trailer for the latest entry in the "found footage" trilogy that showcases some pissed-off ghosts.

Paranormal Activity 3 is more like a prequel than a followup to its predecessors. The movie takes us back in time to the late '80s, when franchise heroine Katie and her sister Kristi first encounter the supernatural. The whole backstory plays into the film's haunting tagline, which is "Discover How the Activity Began."

To be fair, it looks like this trailer reveals a lot of good scares. Those spirits are mad as hell, and they're not going to take it anymore! The first Paranormal Activity was a hit, the second was hit or miss, and the third one is up to you. Could this film be scarier than the first?

On a side note, the studio really wants to stick with the viral marketing that made the first and second movies so popular. Today, they launched a campaign at that asks fans to use Twitter to vote to get their city an early screening. It's called "Tweet to See It First," and the top 20 cities with the most tweets get the film three days before the rest of us.

Are you itching to see PA3 that bad, or can you wait until it officially opens?

Paranormal Activity 3 opens nationwide Oct. 21.
