If you read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and wondered when it would be sci-fi's turn for a zombie mashup, the answer is, well, now. Quirk Books, which started the undead-mashup fad with its zombified Jane Austen novel, just picked up the rights to Night of the Living Trekkies by Kevin David Anderson, GalleyCat reported.

Here's how Anderson pitched the book: "It's Galaxy Quest meets Dawn of the Dead when all hell breaks loose at a Star Trek convention—and the world's only hope for survival rests in the hands of some very determined fanboys!"

Rekulak explained why Quirk leapt on the project: "I've always felt that a giant convention of fanboys (like the San Diego Comic-Con) would be a delightful setting for some kind of genre fiction—mystery, romance, horror, something. Then the manuscript for Night of the Living Trekkies landed on my desk, and I knew I had my book."

And based on the above photo, snapped by aloalo at Vancouver's 2009 Zombie Walk, there are already plenty of fans out there hungry for a Star Trek/zombie mashup. Just remember not to get too close to them!

Zombiehood is a place where many Trekkers have gone before.
