News briefs: Battlestar's Moore signs deal; Walking Dead gets star

Battlestar Galactica rebooter Ronald D. Moore has signed a two-year overall development deal with Sony Pictures TV to create and executive-produce series projects for broadcast and cable through his production company Tall Ship Productions, Deadline Hollywood reported.

One of our favorite TV actresses, Prison Break's Sarah Wayne Callies, has signed on as the female lead in AMC's upcoming The Walking Dead zombie TV show, based on Robert Kirkman's comic, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds and Toby Jones have joined Anthony Hopkins in the cast of The Rite, the upcoming exorcism drama based on true events, Screen Daily reports.

Barry Sonnenfeld is partnering with Fluent Media Group and Resonant TV to develop Beat the Devil, a supernatural thriller TV show that is first being shopped in foreign territories before being pitched to U.S networks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Directors Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero will split directing responsibilities for two further films in the Spanish-language [REC] horror franchise for Filmax International, Screen Daily reported; the first film was a hit and resulted in the English-language remake Quarantine.
