News briefs: MTV axes Rocky; Crackle Woke Up Dead

MTV has scrapped plans to do a made-for-cable remake of the 1975 cult musical-horror classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Wrap reported; while not specifying a reason for why the project was killed, a spokeswoman for the Viacom-owned cable channel said the movie has been off the network's development slate for some time.

Corey Feldman will host this year's Chiller-Eyegore Awards, honoring individuals for their achievements in horror, at the opening-night ceremony of Universal Studios Hollywood's "Halloween Horror Nights" event, kicking off a 16-night run on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
..., Sony Pictures Entertainment's online video network, announced a new 13-week season of original programming, beginning Sept. 16, featuring the tech show The Esquire Digital Man, written and hosted by film director and Esquire columnist Barry Sonnenfeld; Hardline: Inside the Idaho Sex Cult, a 60-Minutes-style mockumentary from world-famous comedy troupe the Groundlings; and Woke Up Dead, a live-action zombie comedy starring Jon Heder.

MTV has green-lighted a puppet project called Warren the Ape, a spinoff of the Fox/IFC series Greg the Bunny, for a 2010 launch, Variety reported; Bunny creators Spencer Chinoy, Sean Baker and Dan Milano will executive-produce.
