News briefs: Rourke is Conan's dad; Cage to be a caveman

Mickey Rourke is in negotiations to play the father of Jason Momoa's Conan in Lionsgate's upcoming Conan movie (the barbarian, not the talk-show host); Latino Review was the first to report the news.

Nicolas Cage and Ryan Reynolds will play CG cavemen in DreamWorks Animation's The Croods, a comedy that pits a prehistoric patriarch (Cage) against a forward-thinking outsider (Reynolds), Variety reported.

Universal Pictures, in conjunction with Wired magazine and Lone Shark Games, announced an alternate-reality game to promote its upcoming Repo Men movie; fans are invited to locate four "runners," each with a $7,500 bounty on each of his or her heads, who have gone on the lam somewhere in the country.

Looney Toons Tunes and Song of the South animator Rudy Larriva died Feb. 19 in Irvine, Calif., at the age of 94, Variety reported.

Derek VanLint, the cinematographer on Ridley Scott's 1979 original Alien movie, died Tuesday in Toronto after a short illness at the age of 78, according to The Hollywood Reporter; he also worked on the 1981 fantasy adventure Dragonslayer.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Donald Faison will play a scheming but happy-go-lucky entrepreneur with Eric Balfour in the sci-fi thriller film Skyline, in which Faison's character ends up dragging his pal to the West Coast where a strange, supernatural force is out to swallow humanity and eliminate everyone in the planet.
