News briefs: Earthbound optioned, Moonlight star back

Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald have optioned the film rights to the Richard Matheson supernatural novel Earthbound, which centers on a married man who starts an affair with a young stranger, only to realize that she may actually be the ghost of a long-dead woman driven by something much more than earthly passion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin has signed to take on the lead role in the CBS reboot of Hawaii Five-O, joining Lost's Daniel Dae Kim, who was already cast as Detective Chin Ho Kelly.

Alicia Silverstone will reunite with her Clueless director Amy Heckerling on Vamps, a vampire romantic comedy about two modern-day female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality, The Playlist reported.

Mark Sheppard (Battlestar Galactica's Romo Lampkin) will guest-star on The CW's Supernatural, reprising the role of the demon Crowley, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Tyrese Gibson posted a picture of himself with Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg on his Twitter feed @Tyrese4ReaL and announced: "TRANSFORMERS 3: Is Full THrottle Full Steam Ahead..... Michael Bay gave me the start date.. And I can't share."
