News briefs: Flash gets debut date; XXX shelved; Tyrese sings

ABC announced that its fall sci-fi series Flash Forward will debut on Sept. 24 and will air Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Director Rob Cohen has backed out of reteaming with Vin Diesel on XXX: The Return of Xander Cage for Sony and has signed a deal to helm an event-sized action film that Cohen calls The Magnificent Seven in the Middle Ages, Varietyreported.

Tyrese Gibson is teaming with Jewel to record a song for the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen soundtrack, called "Make It Last," MTV.com reported; Gibson also reprises the role of Master Sgt. Epps.

The visually inventive filmmaker behind Edward Scissorhands, Batman and Sweeney Todd will be the subject of "Tim Burton," a major exhibition at New York's Museum of Modern Art, beginning Nov. 22 and running through April 26, 2010, Variety reported; the show will include more than 700 paintings, drawings, storyboards, maquettes, puppets and other works created or designed by Burton.
