News briefs: Friday 13th II release; Let Me In casting

Warner Brothers announced an Aug. 13, 2010, release date for Friday the 13th Part 2, a sequel to the Platinum Dunes-produced remake that arrived in theaters this past February, reported.

Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road), Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Richard Jenkins (HBO's Six Feet Under) will star in Let Me In, Cloverfield director Matt Reeves' adaptation of the Swedish vampire movie Let the Right One In, when principal photography begins this fall in New Mexico.

A crazy new trailer has gone live for The Crazies, a remake of the 1973 George Romero film of the same name, directed by Breck Eisner and opening Feb. 26, 2010.

Wes Craven tweeted: 25/8 News: Nearing the end of the first week of the final mix. The film is sounding great.

Sam Raimi's genre label Ghost House Pictures is launching Spooky Pictures as a new banner that will produce thrillers for family audiences, Variety reported; the first film will be The Substitute, a remake of the Danish thriller that Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) will direct.
