News briefs: Fringe couple splits; Jiminy Cricket dies

People magazine reports that Fringe star Anna Torv and Human Target star Mark Valley, who wed secretly in 2008 while they were co-stars on Fringe, have quietly ended their marriage; the couple reportedly separated a few months ago.

Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer) has joined the Russian alien invasion thriller film The Darkest Hour, Variety reported.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Eddie Carroll, who voiced Disney's Jiminy Cricket for almost 40 years, died of a brain tumor on April 6 at the age of 66; Carroll as Jiminy Cricket was the longest recurring character voice actor in the Disney stable of characters, and Carroll took over from the late Cliff Edwards, the original voice, in 1973.

Meinhardt Raabe, who played the Munchkin coroner in The Wizard of Oz and proclaimed in the movie that the Wicked Witch of the East was "really most sincerely dead," has died at the age of 94, Variety reported; his caregiver, Cindy Bosnyak, said Raabe died Friday morning at a hospital in Orange Park, Fla. He was one of the few surviving Munchkins from the 1939 film.

Mike Finch and Alex Litvak, who wrote the upcoming Predators reboot, have been brought aboard to draft Masters of the Universe for Columbia, according to The Hollywood Reporter; the studio picked up movie rights to the 1980s Mattel toy property in the fall.
