News briefs: FX gets Museum 2, Piranha and 24 casting

FX has picked up the basic cable rights to the Memorial Day weekend box-office champ Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Variety reported; the deal calls for the film to become available to FX in November 2011.

Gossip Girl's Jessica Szohr has signed on to co-star in Dimension's Piranha 3D, joining Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Ving Rhames, Dina Meyer and Richard Dreyfuss in the Alexandre Aja-helmed horror remake, Variety reported.

Fangoria Entertainment, Sony Pictures, Screening Services Group and Atari are sponsoring a contest and preview screening to promote the June 16 Blu-ray release of Ghostbusters and the debut of a new Ghostbusters video game.

Jennifer Westfeldt and John Boyd have joined the cast of Fox's 24 for the eighth season, to be set in New York, according to The Hollywood Reporter; Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein) will play Meredith Reed, an ambitious journalist with ties to Arman Hashemi (Anil Kapoor), a Middle East leader, while Boyd will play CTU systems analyst Jonah Schwartz.

The first two seasons of ABC's Lost arrive in Blu-ray collector's editions on June 16, with episodes digitally remastered with a 1080p high-definition picture and 5.1 uncompressed sound.

Guillermo del Toro will fly from New Zealand, where he is currently in preproduction on the Hobbit movies, to Los Angeles, where he will make an appearance at a midnight signing of his and Chuck Hogan's new vampire novel The Strain at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood on June 2.
