News briefs: Mars needs moms; new King Arthur movie

Disney has set a March 11, 2011, release date for its live-action 3-D sci-fi comedy Mars Needs Moms, starring Seth Green and Joan Cusack, Variety reported; the movie tells the story of a young boy who gains a deeper appreciation for his mom after Martians kidnap her to the Red Planet.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will open in IMAX theaters on May 28, the same day it opens in conventional theaters.

Variety reports that Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie is attached to a new King Arthur movie at Warner Brothers, to be written by John Hodge (Trainspotting), as a re-imagining of the legend.

Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds lands on Blu-ray for the first time on June 1 from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Disneyland Resort and D23: The Official Community for Disney Fans will host Destination D, a brand-new, two-day event for D23 members, Sept. 24-25.
