News briefs: Monica Bellucci in Sorcerer, Stay writer hired

Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded) has joined the cast of Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer's The Sorcerer's Apprentice, playing Veronica, a sorceress and the long-lost love of Nicolas Cage's character, Balthazar Blake, Variety reported.

Shauna Cross will write Summit Entertainment's fantasy drama If I Stay, to which Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has been attached, Variety reported; based on Gayle Forman's novel, the movie centers on a gifted classical musician who's forced to choose between life and death when she's in a car accident with her family.

Arclight has bought Future X-Cops, a local-language time-travel action film that is set to make a huge end-of-year splash in China, according to The Hollywood Reporter; the $20 million movie stars Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau and is directed by Wong Jing.

Kung Fu Panda is on its way to the small screen as a CG-animated comedy TV series, according to The Hollywood Reporter; Nickelodeon has ordered 26 episodes of the DreamWorks Animation show.
