News briefs: Predators sneak peek; Oscar honors horror

A first-look showing of Predators with producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal will screen at the South by Southwest film festival on March 12 in Austin, Texas; the sci-fi movie opens July 9.

Bloody-Disgusting reports that Sunday's Oscar ceremony will feature a segment dedicated solely to the horror genre, a category traditionally ignored by the academy.

Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters) is in negotiations to helm the vampire horror-thriller The Last Voyage of the Demeter for Phoenix Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter; the film will be based on a chapter in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Dark Horizons reports that the first trailer for Zack Snyder's Legend of the Guardians, the 3-D animated movie formerly titled The Guardians of Ga'Hoole and based on Kathryn Lasky's book series, will be attached to copies of Alice in Wonderland, opening on Friday.
