News briefs: Roth readies Cotton; Skarsgard joins Thor

Inglourious Basterds star Eli Roth is getting ready to shoot his Louisiana exorcism movie Cotton while finishing up the for his first sci-fi movie, Endangered Species, Variety reported.

Stellan Skarsgard (Pirates of the Caribbean) will join the cast of Marvel Studios' Thor, along with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Samuel L. Jackson. Paramount will release the Kenneth Branagh-directed feature on May 20, 2011.

Universal Networks has signed on to co-finance the Stephen King supernatural drama Haven, based on the King novella "The Colorado Kid," about a town for inhabitants with curses; there is no U.S. distribution for the show yet.

Paranormal Activity writer-director Oren Peli starts production next week on Area 51, which will employ the "found footage" narrative structure of his last film and tell the story of three teens whose curiosity leads them to the notorious part of Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert, Variety reported.

Angels & Demons drops on a two-disc Extended Edition DVD and Blu-ray disc on Nov. 24.
