News briefs: Screenwriter tackles Who; Lost props displayed

British screenwriter Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral) has agreed to write an episode of the U.K. sci-fi series Doctor Who to "impress his children," Variety reported; Curtis will script one of the episodes featuring the new Time Lord, actor Matt Smith, who takes over from David Tennant next year.

Profiles in History will offer fans of ABC's Lost a special preview of their summer 2010 auction with a display of authentic props, costumes and set pieces at Disney's D23 fan convention, Sept. 10-13 at the Anaheim Convention Center; props include Kate's toy plane, Hurley's winning lottery ticket, Locke's hunting knife and Sawyer's letter.

Peter Gallagher has been tapped to co-star on USA Network's pilot Covert Affairs, about a multilingual CIA trainee who joins the agency while reeling over a mysterious ex-boyfriend who appears to be of particular interest to her bosses, according to The Hollywood Reporter; Gallagher will play CIA director Arthur Campbell.
