News briefs: Zombieland writers confirmed for Deadpool; Shatner hosts wrestling

Confirming a report a month ago on C.H.U.D., Variety reports that 20th Century Fox is making progress with its X-Men spinoff, Deadpool, and has tapped Zombieland writeres Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to draft the screenplay; Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as the wisecracking mercenary from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider) will guest-star on an episode of the syndicated TV series Legend of the Seeker, portraying a beautiful and powerful young woman claiming to be the Creator, the living embodiment of a God.

Survivors, a new TV series about the end of the world, premieres on BBC America on Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with subsequent episodes at 9.

Speaking of BBC America, the Jan. 2 airing of David Tennant's farewell to Doctor Who broke viewing records for the channel; "The End of Time, Part Two," followed by Demons, delivered BBC America its highest-ever primetime rating and delivery in total viewers.

Star Trek's William Shatner will be the guest host on WWE's Raw on Feb. 1 from Nashville, TrekMovie.com reported.
