The other zombie series on cable, Z Nation, has slowly been building up a fan base over on Syfy with an undead drama that is wholly different than The Walking Dead — and they’ll be mixing things up even more next season.
The third season of the Syfy (Corporate owner of Blastr -Ed.) series will reportedly launch with a TV movie, before leading into the regular season. The movie will reportedly be set at some point (or points) in the past (hmm, could some dearly departed characters show back up?) and help establish a lot of the plot points and action in Season 3. What's it about? With this series, there's no telling.
This show has always been unpredictable, and though it might double down on its wackiness at times (it is certainly an acquired taste), Z Nation is one of the most entertaining and creative shows on TV. So, mixing things up with a TV movie is arguably just par for the course at this point. Star Anastasia Baranova likened the movie to a Doctor Who Christmas special, noting it will stand alone as its own story, while also laying the groundwork for the new season.
Z Nation returns to Syfy this fall with a 15-episode season.
