It’s a grim year for Grimm fans as the show returns for its sixth and final season next week. Ahead of the final chapter's premiere, NBC has unleashed the first clip.

The scene picks up where we left off at the end of the dramatic two-hour Season 5 finale, moments after Capt. Renard (Sasha Roiz) ran Bonaparte (Shaun Toub) through with a sword to save Nick (David Giuntoli), who was getting the life choked out of him by the Black Claw head honcho. The twist? Renard was actually being controlled by his and Adalind’s (Claire Coffee) daughter, Diana (Hannah R. Loyd), via her doll.

In the sneak peek below, Nick and Renard stand around confused about what just happened in Nick’s loft. Both have questions as Bonaparte lies dead as a doornail on the floor, but Renard leaves before either of them can make sense of what happened. Season 6 will see the two former allies on opposite sides as Nick has to go on the run following the massacre, with Renard determined to kill him.

CAPT. RENARD ORDERS A SHOOT-TO-KILL MANHUNT ON NICK BURKHARDT – Following the massacre in Nick’s (David Giuntoli) loft, Capt. Renard (Sasha Roiz) is hellbent on eliminating him once and for all. Hank (Russell Hornsby) and Wu (Reggie Lee) head back to the precinct to keep an eye on the Captain and help give the gang the upper hand.

Meanwhile, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) grapple with staying in Portland now that their family will be expanding. Elsewhere, Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) suffers the side effects of the mysterious stick’s healing power.

The 13-episode final season of Grimm returns on Jan. 6 in its new timeslot of 8 p.m./7c on NBC.
