Rumors have been making the rounds lately that Nick Fury would appear in Captain Marvel, and it looks like those rumors were right.
According to Deadline, Samuel L. Jackson will reprise the role of the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who was last seen during the dramatic events of 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. Fury sat out last year’s hero-fest Captain America: Civil War but will make his eagerly anticipated return to help Earth's Mightiest Heroes (and the Guardians of the Galaxy) take on the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Infinity War when the Russo Brothers' superhero team-up movie arrives in theaters on May 4, 2018.
Nick Fury appearing in Captain Marvel will reunite the Unbreakable actor with star Brie Larson (who will be playing Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel) after the two appeared together earlier this year in Kong: Skull Island.
Well, technically they will reunite for the third Avengers movie before Captain Marvel headlines her solo adventure on March 8, 2019, since Carol Danvers will reportedly be introduced in Infinity War. Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson appearing together on screen in Marvel’s first female-led superhero film will hopefully make the third time the charm for both actors.
There’s no word as to what part Nick Fury will play in Captain Marvel, but it makes sense a character like that could be a mentor, or just serve as a bridge to fully integrate Carol Danvers into the MCU — or heck — maybe he'll turn her into a superspy (just kidding, probably)?
