Nic Cage has been in some weird movies. Such weird movies that the pair of movies (yes, two) where his head is just a flaming skull are more towards the middle of the pack, strangeness-wise. But now, following up on his dip into horror with Mom and Dad, the Oscar-winner is going full Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the bloody revenge slasher Mandy.
Director Panos Cosmatos’ Sundance Film Festival favorite features Cage’s character falling for Mandy Bloom (Andrea Riseborough) in the early 1980s, when their life is turned upside-down by a pack of rampaging maniacs and otherworldly creatures. Obviously Nic forges weapons and starts getting bloody.
Take a look at the film’s first trailer:
Holy crap that’s an honest-to-goodness chainsaw fight. And a tiger! And so much blood it seems to have colored the whole screen red!
Already universally acclaimed on Rotten Tomatoes, the film seems to offer one of Cage’s best, most unleashed performances to date and plenty of slasherific horror to go along with it.
Mandy slices its way to theaters on September 14.
