Nike promises we'll finally get our Back to the Future II Air MAG shoes this year

We’re officially living in 2015, and there’s only one question on everyone’s mind: When the heck will we get our Nike Air MAG shoes, made famous in Back the the Future II’s version of the year? Well, Nike finally has an answer.

The greatest minds at the shoe company have actually been working to create some real-life Back to the Future II kicks for quite a while, but they keep running into a problem with those darn power laces. Turns out, even in 2015 that’s a tough feature to pull off. Namely, how to power those nifty laces without a big ol' battery pack.

But Nike's innovation chief Tinker Hatfield confirmed earlier this week that they’re very close to finally cracking it. He said they will land in 2015, but wouldn’t pin down a release date (or price). We’re thinking price will be a big one there. Hatfield told the crowd they’re working furiously and still have “11 and two-thirds months left in 2015.” Make it happen, shoe geniuses.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Nike has teased the release of some Air MAG shoes — and they actually put out some ultra-limited edition pairs a few years ago (without power laces, we’ll note) — but it sounds like 2015 might finally bring some Air MAGs for the rest of us. Or else we'll have to keep wearing these midly cool knock-offs.
