Nintendo has created a surprisingly great Star Fox anime series, check it out here

One of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises is finally getting a modern-generation update, and we even get a Star Fox anime series to go with it.

Dubbed Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins, the anime series ties into the new Star Fox Zero video game on Wii U. The short film essentially helps set the stage for the game, focusing on the efforts of pilots Fox McCloud, Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad and Falco Lombardi as they face off with the evil forces of Andross. It’s also loaded with some nice nods and throwbacks to the series’ history on the SNES and Nintendo 64, so look out for that. 

Though you might think this is just a ho-hum marketing tie-in, the short film has some surprising production values. It was produced in collaboration with Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto and Production IG and WIT Studios. It also looks positively fantastic, and if Nintendo ever wants to dip its toe back into the animated series realm, this would be the perfect place to start.
