Nintendo’s highly acclaimed action adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild cleaned up at the 21st D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Awards on Thursday night, winning a string of awards including the grand prize, Game of the Year.
The popular game -- which took home four trophies -- takes players on a world of adventure as they travel across vast fields, through forests, and over mountain peaks as they discover what has become of the kingdom of Hyrule. It was released last March and has been a hit among fans, including some of us here at SYFY Wire.

The annual ceremony, put together by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), honored the best video games of 2017 with 24 award categories. Genyo Takeda, special corporate advisor at Nintendo, was also celebrated at the event and received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Other winners included Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Racing Game of the Year), Super Mario Odyssey (Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design), Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – Senua (Outstanding Achievement in Character), and Nier: Automata (Role-Playing Game of the Year).
