No end in sight for Supernatural, CW still interested in developing spinoff series

It’s almost a running joke these days, to look at just how long The CW’s Supernatural has been on the air. Like, seriously — this show actually started its run on The WB, and it’s still going strong.

So what does CW president Mark Pedowitz have to say about the odds the monster-hunting drama will stick around for a 12th season? “If the numbers hold,” and the creative team (and stars) want to stick around, the network is pleased with the “fresh enthusiasm” surrounding Supernatural and would keep on going indefinitely. Despite its age, Supernatural has avoided the typical ratings drop-off for veteran series, and is often pulling in better numbers than usual. It’s literally the series that just won’t die.

Looking beyond the flagship series, Pedowitz said the network would still “love to do” a spinoff series, if they can ever land on a formula that works. An attempt from a couple years ago that felt like a lame duck ripoff of The Vampire Diaries never made it beyond a backdoor pilot. Though they have no aims to do one this year, Pedowitz said “there will be another swing” eventually. Here's hoping they attempt to spin off something in-universe, instead of trying to establish something too-far outside the box. Fans like Supernatural because of the vibe, and any spinoff needs to retain that spirit.

What do you think? Would you like Supernatural to keep going? Any thoughts on a spinoff idea?
