It was on this day in 1933 that The Invisible Man premiered in theaters.

Based on the H.G. Wells novel by the same name, the film was directed by James Whale and featured actors Claude Rains and Gloria Stuart (remember her?). It was a hit with critics. The New York Times put it on its list of ten best films of 1933, while Variety called it "something new and refreshing in film frighteners."

There are also some notable birthdays on this day in sci-fi history. Whoopi Goldberg was born on this day in 1955 in New York City. She won an Oscar for her performance in Ghost (1990).

Gerard Butler was born in Scotland on this day in 1969. He's currently (probably) still battling the looming Geostorm threat.

Tomorrow: All hail the HypnoToad.
