Yesterday, Warner Bros. surprised fans with a five-minute look at James Wan's Aquaman at NYCC. The footage, which was also officially released online, provided a more in-depth look at the world of the film, as well as our heroes Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and Mera (Amber Heard). Focusing on Arthur and Mera quest for the Trident of Atlantis, as well as a single take scene of an encounter with Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), the footage stunned fans and promised a new vision for DC's cinematic universe. But they haven't seen anything yet according to James Wan.
While yesterday was a big day for footage at NYCC, with Fox showing off 13 minutes of Dark Phoenix and Universal delivering the 25 minute opening of Mortal Engines, some voices on social media singled Aquaman out and expressed concern that Aquaman's five minutes were giving away too much of the film.
Director James Wan took to Twitter to assauge fears of spoilers, while promising a lot more to be seen when Aquaman releases in theaters.
While no trailer can please everyone, WB's marketing game for Aquaman has been strong, and James Wan doesn't owe anyone an explanation for the footage that's been released so far. So instead of worrying about spoilers, we should all simply sit back and let the waves of excitement wash over us.
Aquaman swims into theaters on December 21.
