Today is the 41st birthday of Ryan Reynolds. He's Deadpool, team.

Look, he's one of those actors who looks like the very handsomest version of a regular person. So it was inevitable that he'd end up playing a superhero. Born in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, in 1976, Reynolds actually got his start pretty young, playing the love interest of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Today is also the birthday of the late, great Michael Crichton. Born in Chicago in 1942, Crichton began writing thrill-a-minute novels in 1966 and ultimately learned he had a particular knack with sci-fi novels. His breakout novel was The Andromeda Strain (1971). It was quickly turned into a movie.

From there we got novels turned into movies, like The Terminal Man (1974) ...

The Great Train Robbery (1978), which Crichton directed himself ...

Congo (1995) ...

Sphere (1998) ...

And then there was Jurassic Park (1993), which Steven Spielberg discovered while the two of them were discussing, get this, a screenplay of Crichton's that would later become the TV show ER.

Crichton wrote a ton more, and his novels are still devoured on planes, beaches, and anywhere else one might need a good read. He died in 2008.

Tomorrow: Happy birthday, Bob Kane.
