October 26 in Sci-Fi History: Gattaca (also The Terminator)

It was on this day in 1984 that The Terminator premiered.

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, this is a pure James Cameron Alpha-Male go-nuts action science fiction explosion movie. True to its "I'll be back" words, the movie spawned sequels and TV shows and made stars out of a lot of people.

It was also on this day in 1997 that the underrated and surprisingly prescient Gattaca premiered. Hollywood wasted no time in casting the actors it thought would look like genetically superior humans (Uma Thurman and Jude Law) and also one who could maybe pass (Ethan Hawke).

Also today, some birthdays in sci-fi and fantasy to speak of. Cary "As You Wish" Elwes was born on this day in 1962.

Also, Seth MacFarlane was born on this day in 1973. While we're at it: How do we feel about The Orville?

Tomorrow: The Ministry of Silly Walks.
