Entering its fourth season, BBC America’s cult hit Orphan Black is looking to go a whole lot deeper into its mind-bending premise — and the latest teaser trailer makes that very, very clear.
The teaser, which features star Tatiana Maslany in her myriad roles, is mirrored after the classic children’s tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, even yanking some choice excerpts from Lewis Carroll’s tale for maximum (creepy) effect. It seems Sarah and the gang will be going down the rabbit hole of this great mystery, quite literally, and the footage here does an excellent job of setting that scene. As the trailer makes clear: “The only way forward is to go back.”
Per BBC America, Season 4 of the series will see Sarah reluctantly return home from her Icelandic hideout to track down an elusive and mysterious ally tied to the clone who started it all — Beth Childs. Sarah will follow Beth’s footsteps into a dangerous relationship with a potent new enemy, heading in a horrifying new direction. Under constant pressure to protect the sisterhood and keep everyone safe, Sarah’s old habits begin to resurface. As the close-knit sisters are pulled in disparate directions, Sarah finds herself estranged from the loving relationships that changed her for the better.

It’s nice to see the mystery seemingly start to refocus back on the female clone arc, after taking a few detours last season. Season 3 had to do a lot of heavy lifting by expanding the clone mythology within the overarching mystery, and though it still made for great television (seriously, you should be watching this show), it’s great to see things heading back to where they began in Year 4.
Orphan Black is set to return to BBC America this spring.
