This past weekend there may have been no place more magical than Universal Orlando, which played host to the fourth annual A Celebration of Harry Potter.
The fan event at the theme park -- home to two Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction areas: Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley -- has become a yearly gathering for wizard-loving Muggles and spellcasting witches alike.
This year's event included Q&A sessions with Harry Potter movie actors Tom Felton, Jason Isaacs, Matthew Lewis and Warwick Davis, as well as wand combat skills demonstrations, costume contests, trivia competitions and house sortings courtesy of that rhyming ol' hat.
The Harry Potter expo expanded this year to two sound stages and housed photo opportunities, games like Quaffle toss and a Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them VR experience from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Google Daydream View.
There were also an exhibition and shop from the House of MinaLima, the graphic art designers from the Potter and Fantastic Beasts films. Warner Bros. Studio Tour London also showed off a mini-version of its "Making of Harry Potter" attraction (which included a full-size Aragog spider); the expo likewise included an activation from Audible, which featured the really cool "Audible Recall" Harry Potter trivia game.
Meanwhile, Scholastic returned with its Muggle Wall, where fans could write what Harry Potter means to them. Also, the London stage production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child showed off props and behind-the-scenes info.
And, as at any good fan celebration, there were exclusive items for purchase, ranging from event tees to an amazing Borgin and Burkes MinaLima print, and even a special Chocolate Frog with a Gilderoy Lockhart wizard card. There was also the official announcement that the WB Studio Tour in London would be unveiling a Forbidden Forest attraction this coming March.
But the most stunning and memorable part of A Celebration of Harry Potter 2017 were the fans themselves. Thousands of fans spread magic throughout the two Universal Orlando theme parks with their cosplay and proud display of love for J.K. Rowling's creations. This year, costumers of Newt Scamander and his gang from Fantastic Beasts made a strong showing, and while last year included tributes to the late Alan Rickman, this year fans gathered outside the two Ollivander's Wand Shops for wand salutes to John Hurt (who portrayed the wand maker in the films).
Take a look at just a few of the cosplayers that cast a spell on me during 2017's A Celebration of Harry Potter, along with some photos from the expo, panels and the John Hurt tributes.
