Is this our first real look at Michael Bay's rebooted Ninja Turtles?

We still don’t have a full-fledged look at the finished version of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but this peek is definitely a lot more encouraging than that Halloween costume design.

The folks at Comic Book Movie have released a new photo that allegedly shows some design maquettes from the film, and the Turtles don’t look nearly as ridiculous as we expected. It’s hard to make out a ton of detail, but it at least doesn’t look like an absolute train wreck. It's hard to say if these models are truly legit, but Bleeding Cool claims they match designs they've seen, so that's a big plus.

The design is hard to pin down in detail, but they definitely have the ready-for-action ninja vibe going on. The big shells fit with those CGI-less set pics we saw, so there’s at least some continuity there.

The film is being produced by Michael Bay and directed by Jonathan Liebesman, so we can expect a fair share of Turtle-splosions when it opens in mid-to-late 2014.

Sound off below and let us know what you think of the design!
