They took their sweet time, but Starz has finally unveiled our first look at Lord John Grey in Season 3 of Ron D. Moore’s critically acclaimed time travel series, Outlander.

Played by Australian actor David Berry (A Place to Call Home), Lord John Grey is a key secondary character in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels, who became so popular he has his own series of mystery novels, novellas and short stories.

Although first introduced as William Grey in the Season 2 episode “Je Suis Prest” (where he was played by Oscar Kennedy), the third season will give us the grown-up version of the character who has a complicated relationship (and lifelong friendship despite some, erm, rough beginnings) with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Here’s Starz’s official description of Lord John Grey:

Lord John Grey is a steadfast and honorable British subject, torn between a finely-honed sense of familial duty and a strong moral compass of right and wrong. He is boyishly handsome with an upper class rearing — the consummate gentleman. However, a scandal from his past has relegated Lord John to an undesirable position as governor of a desolate prison in Northern Scotland.

Not only do we have our first look at Lord John Grey, but Starz has also unveiled a new pic of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Frank (Tobias Menzies) with a young Brianna (Claire and Jamie's daughter), and I’ve included the key art for Season 3 in the gallery below, so step through the standing stones and dig in.

The Droughtlander will end when Outlander returns on Sept. 10 on Starz.
