Finally, Sassenachs! During last night's premiere of The White Princess, Starz debuted the first footage for the upcoming third season of Ron D. Moore’s critically acclaimed time travel drama series Outlander, and we have it right here.
Two images were also unveiled last week (via EW), and I’ve included them in the piece in case you guys didn’t get to see them the first time round. One shows Jamie (Sam Heughan) on a horse — nothing really spoilery there. As for the second image, we have Claire (Caitriona Balfe) back with first hubby Frank (Tobias Menzies) in the swinging '60s. Remember that Claire traveled back through the stones in order to return to her own time during the Season 2 finale.
As for the teaser, it highlights Jamie’s separation from Claire and his vow that he’ll find her again — despite being separated by two centuries. We see snippets of Jamie during the Battle of Culloden (and after) and Claire’s life back in the 20th century with Frank and Brianna.
“I have lied, killed and broken trust. But when I stand before God, I’ll have one thing to say to weigh against all the rest. Lord, you gave me a rare woman. God, I loved her well.” — James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser (or JAMMF, for short). Read up on the Season 3 synopsis before digging into the teaser trailer below:
The story picks up right after Claire (Caitriona Balfe) travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant with Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) child, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love. The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire’s heart… as well as new doubt. Separated by continents and centuries, Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other. As always, adversity, mystery, and adventure await them on the path to reunion. And the question remains: When they find each other, will they be the same people who parted at the standing stones, all those years ago?
The Droughtlander will be over when Outlander returns for a time-traveling Season 3 in September.
