We all know Guillermo del Toro's pulling out all the badass stops for his giant-robots-vs.-giant-monsters fighting flick Pacific Rim, and we can't wait to see the trailer. What's the first teaser got in store for us? One of the flick's writers says it's big. Really big.
In a new interview, Marcus Dunstan, the flick's co-writer, who's best known for his work on the Saw franchise, talked about visiting the Pacific Rim set for the first time and getting a taste of what del Toro's got in store for the flick's trailer. Here's what he saw:
"We were given a teaser the first day we showed up on set. One set, which is as big as a football stadium, had a robot foot. Then Mr. Del Toro showed us 10 seconds of a fight between the entities of the future and the creatures of his imagination and it's like, 'Okay, the summer is now owned.'"
Of course, you never expect a screenwriter to be publicly underwhelmed by a flick he's working on, so it's no surprise that he's talking up del Toro's visuals. Still, it's noteworthy when someone who already knows how the flick plays out is blown away by something the director created. Del Toro's always been a visual genius, and Pacific Rim feels like the perfect arena for him to show off. Will we be as impressed as Dunstan? We'll have to wait until the trailer drops to find out.
Pacific Rim hits theaters July 12, 2013.
