Patton Oswalt, Danny Glover, and David Cross sign onto a movie ... sounds like it should be the opening line of a joke, or at least a pretty awesome stand-up set. Instead, they have joined the cast of a new sci-fi drama, Sorry to Bother You.
Yes, sci-fi drama. I refuse to believe these three actors, best known for comedic roles and stand-up performances, will be able to play it 100% straight. But as it stands, the script is meant to be a dramatic feature. According to Deadline, the story revolves around "a black telemarketer with self-esteem issues who discovers a magical key to business success, propelling him to the upper echelons of the hierarchy just as his activist comrades are rising up against unjust labor practices. When he uncovers the macabre secret of his corporate overlords, he must decide whether to stand up or sell out."
Glover, Cross, and Oswalt join a previously announced cast that includes Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor: Ragnarok), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out), Armie Hammer (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.), comedian Jermaine Fowler, Omari Hardwick (Power), Terry Crews (Brooklyn 9-9), and Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead). This is the directorial debut of rapper Boots Riley.
